The standard beard course is three to four sessions spaced about four weeks apart. The spacing matters as much as the number, because it follows the hair growth cycle rather than an arbitrary schedule.
After the initial course, most patients hold their result with a single maintenance session every four to six months. Stop entirely and the beard gradually returns toward its baseline, the same as with scalp PRP.
One session is a trial, not a treatment. If someone offers you a dramatic single-session beard transformation, that is marketing rather than biology.
Days 1 to 2: redness and mild swelling along the jaw and cheeks, with small pinpoint marks. Most patients go back to work the next day.
Weeks 2 to 4: nothing visible yet. Existing hairs may feel slightly coarser.
Weeks 6 to 10: the first real change, usually fine vellus hairs getting darker and thicker rather than brand new hairs in bare patches.
Months 3 to 6: the point where patchy areas fill in enough to change the look of the beard line, after the full initial series.
Take photos before session one in the same light and at the same angles. Beard change is gradual and easy to underestimate without them.
PRP works best where there are already fine, light, short hairs in the patchy area. It strengthens and lengthens what is there. Good candidates include thin cheek coverage, a patchy jawline, gaps from an old scar with intact surrounding follicles, and beard hair that has thinned over time.
PRP cannot create a follicle that never existed. Genuinely bare skin with no hair at all, and areas of scarring where the follicle is destroyed, will not respond, and that is a transplant conversation rather than a PRP one.
Patchy beard growth can also be a medical sign. Alopecia areata shows up as smooth round bald patches in the beard and is treated differently, sometimes with injections that are not PRP. We draw a small amount of your blood, spin it in a centrifuge to concentrate the platelets, numb the area with topical anesthetic, and inject the plasma across the treatment zone in a fine grid. Nothing synthetic goes in.
Total time is about 45 to 60 minutes including the draw and numbing. Discomfort is real but brief, and the jawline and upper lip are more sensitive than the cheeks.
Aftercare is simple: no shaving for 48 hours, no beard oil, balm or aftershave for 24 to 48 hours, no gym for 24 hours, no alcohol for 48 hours, and no direct sun on the treated area for a couple of days.
Beard PRP is non-surgical, has no downtime worth the name, and improves what already grows. It is repeatable and requires maintenance.
A beard transplant moves follicles into bare areas and is the only option that creates hair where there is none. It is surgical, more expensive, and permanent.
Topical minoxidil on the face is sometimes used alongside PRP and can help thicken fine hair, but it causes dryness and irritation for some patients and needs to be continued indefinitely.
In practice, patients with fine patchy growth do well with PRP, sometimes with minoxidil added. Patients with truly bare zones are better served by a transplant evaluation, and we will tell you that rather than sell you sessions that cannot work.
We do not publish a price, because the number depends on how many zones are treated and how many sessions your pattern actually needs, and a single figure online would be misleading either way.
Beard PRP is a cosmetic treatment, so it is not covered by insurance. The consultation is where you get a specific quote for a specific plan rather than a range.
