Most patients are advised to wait about 24 hours before returning to the gym. A gentle walk the same evening is fine. What we ask you to avoid in that first day is anything that raises your heart rate hard, floods the scalp with blood, and soaks it in sweat.
By 24 to 48 hours, light cardio and moderate weights are generally comfortable. By 48 hours most patients have no restrictions at all. If your scalp still feels sore or looks pink, that is your signal to give it another day.
Sweat is not going to wash the plasma out of your scalp β the injections sit below the skin. The concern is more practical: sweat, gym equipment, headbands, and repeated touching create friction and bacteria on skin that has dozens of fresh micro-punctures.
Heavy exertion also raises blood pressure and dilates scalp vessels, which can increase the throbbing, redness, and occasional bruising some patients notice the first evening. Waiting a day keeps that to a minimum.
Heavy compound lifting β squats, deadlifts, overhead press β spikes blood pressure and causes straining that pushes blood into the head and scalp. That is the category we push furthest out, usually 48 hours.
Light cardio like walking, easy cycling, or a slow elliptical session is much gentler and can typically resume at 24 hours. Rowing, HIIT, and CrossFit-style circuits sit in between; give them 48 hours.
Heat is the single biggest thing to postpone. Saunas, steam rooms, hot tubs, and hot yoga all dilate scalp vessels aggressively and can prolong redness and swelling. Wait a minimum of 48 hours, and 72 hours if you are still pink.
Swimming pools and the ocean add a second issue β chlorine, salt, and waterborne bacteria on freshly punctured skin. We ask patients to wait 48 to 72 hours before swimming.
Anything that presses on or rubs the treated area is worth avoiding for the first 24 hours: bike helmets, tight headbands, sweatbands, ball caps, and headphones with a firm band across the scalp.
After 24 hours, a clean and loosely fitted helmet or hat is fine. Make sure the padding is clean β a sweaty helmet liner against fresh injection sites is exactly the kind of avoidable irritation we see.
If you trained hard within the first day, the likely outcome is nothing at all. You may notice more redness, a warm scalp, or a bit more tenderness that evening. Rinse with lukewarm water, skip the hot shower, and take the next day easy.
Call us if you develop spreading redness, warmth, swelling, drainage, or fever. Those point to infection rather than normal post-treatment irritation and should be evaluated promptly.
Not right away. Avoid strenuous exercise for about 24 hours, then return gradually β light cardio first, heavy lifting after 48 hours.
Most patients return to the gym after about 24 hours, and to full-intensity training by 48 hours.
Light sweating after the first 24 hours is not harmful. Heavy sweating combined with friction and heat is what we ask you to avoid on day one.
Wait at least 48 hours, and longer if your scalp is still red, since heat dilates scalp vessels and prolongs redness.
Wait 48 to 72 hours before pools, hot tubs, or the ocean to avoid chlorine, salt, and bacteria on fresh injection sites.
Avoid helmets and tight headbands for the first 24 hours, then use a clean, loosely fitted one.
