A standard panel covers chlamydia and gonorrhoea, syphilis, HIV, and hepatitis B and C. Trichomoniasis and herpes testing are added when symptoms or exposure history make them relevant.
Collection is simple: blood work for the bloodborne infections, and urine or a site-specific swab for chlamydia and gonorrhoea. Throat and rectal swabs are included when the exposure history calls for them, because urine alone misses those sites.

Every infection has a window between exposure and the point a test can detect it. Testing too early produces a negative you cannot trust.
Chlamydia and gonorrhoea are usually detectable within one to two weeks of exposure. HIV and syphilis need longer, and follow-up testing at a later interval is often recommended even after an initial negative. Hepatitis has its own timeline.

Come in promptly for burning on urination, unusual discharge, pelvic or testicular pain, sores, ulcers or blisters in the genital area, unexplained rash, or a partner who has been diagnosed with an infection.
Absence of symptoms proves nothing. Chlamydia in particular is frequently silent, and untreated infection can affect fertility, which is why routine screening exists for sexually active adults even without symptoms.
